FLUORIDE SEALANTS
The outer-most white layer of a tooth, called the Enamel, has a textured surface with several pits and grooves. These are particularly seen in the back teeth called the Molars and Premolars.
Some people, particularly children, have comparatively deeper pits and grooves that act as the perfect environment for housing smaller, invisible particles of food and bacteria. It is harder to clean these areas with a regular toothbrush or floss as these are too narrow for the bristles to fit in — This is where fluoride sealants come in to save the tooth from calculus and caries.
Fluoride sealants are tooth colour material that easily flow into these small crevices and seal the area from food, preventing calculus. Additionally, the fluoride component strengthens the
Enamel from the acids released by bacteria that cause caries.
